matrix question survey

Add a Matrix Question to Your Salesforce Survey

Matrix questions are an incredibly powerful tool to add to your salesforce survey!

This tool allows you to add multiple questions in a disagree-to-agree scale to gain a lot of information in quick succession.

All this information can be extremely useful to the business and its functions!

One thing to note before we get too far into the tutorial, you do need to have the feedback management license.

You also need to have surveys enabled and the salesforce surveys advanced features permission assigned to the user who will be using this function.

In the post we will show you how to enable that license and then how to use and setup the matrix question.

Youtube Video

Before we jump too far into the post I want to mention that there is a corresponding youtube video on the Salesforce Emily youtube channel.

I will embed that here but keep scrolling to get to the good stuff!

Enable Surveys Advanced Features

The first thing you’ll need to do is head to setup.

To get there click on the gear icon in the top right corner.

setup

When in setup search for surveys and select ‘Survey settings’.

Then you will need to toggle on surveys in order to enable it.

Once you’ve enabled surveys search again in the quick find for permission sets.

permission sets

Once in the permission set create a new permission set.

This permission set will be used to assign advanced features to a user.

create new permission set

Once you’ve saved the initial label and description for the permission set, search for “Salesforce Surveys Advanced Features”.

Click edit and click the check box next to the “Salesforce Surveys Advanced Features” box.

Click save and confirm the changes to the permission set.

Next you will need to add assignments to this permission set, or add your users to this setting.

Click Add Assignments.

Then choose which users you would like to assign this permission set to.

Click Assign and choose if this permission set will have an expiration or not.

Once assigned, go ahead and verify that you have these advanced features ready to use!

In the app launcher search for and select surveys.

This will allow you to create this question.

Next, enter in a page name that is indicative of what you want to do or ask.

Select Matrix question.

Next, enter in a description of the question that your participants will see.

Personally, I like to give a small introduction on what will be asked or what to do.

Next, you can go down and select the question type, if it is a single selection or multiple selection.

Then enter the relevant information.

First, we start off by entering in the scale at the top of the question.

matrix question selections

Then we ask each question on the vertical side.

Here we’ve asked our participants to rate their interactions with our product, team, and brand.

On the horizontal line, you can click the plus sign and add up to 10 choices.

This scale is great for understanding the depth of our customer interaction.

add more options

On the vertical side you can click the plus sign to add more questions. Up to ten.

If you need to ask more than ten questions, duplicate the page and change the questions on the second page.

add more option

Once you are satisfied with your matrix question click save!

Complete the rest of the survey setup and activate then send the survey to start collecting valuable feedback!
