The first thing you’ll need to do is head over to setup.

Once in setup you will need to search for duplicate rules in the quick find box.

Click on “duplicate rules”.

This will lead you to the metadata and configuration of the duplicate rule.

Next, you’ll either need to select an already made matching rule or create a new one.

duplicate rule meta data

Here we are creating a new matching rule that will be nested and selected for this duplicate rule.

Note: Matching rules are just a fancy way of deciding how to match duplicates. I recommend something unique to just about everyone. I.e. emails, phone numbers, etc.

new matching rule

When you select create new matching rule a popup will appear for you to save the current duplicate rule and jump into matching rules.

Click save duplicate rule.

save new matching rule

Then you’ll begin to do similar metadata and configuration as you did in the duplicate rule.

Here I chose to match the leads by phone number and made it exact with out matching the blank fields.

Think about your use case when you set this up.

Next you’ll save and activate this matching rule.

Once activated, you will be redirected to the duplicate rule.

Finish the metadata and config settings with conditions.
