How to Create a Checkbox Field

checkbox field

The checkbox field in salesforce is a great way to easily display a yes/no input. This is great for a way to check off if something has been completed with your process.

For example, if you have a field to help us understand if an order has been fulfilled and you just need a yes or no the checkbox field is a great way to do so!

This field type is also really awesome for reporting and for list views. You can use this field to filter down which orders have been fulfilled or have not been fulfilled.

However, this is just one use case and there are so many ways and scenarios you would want to use this field. I am a huge fan of the checkbox field.

Youtube Video

One more thing to note before we get too far in this tutorial, we have a youtube video on how to create this field.

Sometimes it is a bit easier to watch someone perform a task than to try and follow along with a blog post.

Step By Step

The first thing we need to do is go to the set up. Click the gear icon in the top right and select setup.

edit object

This will take you to the back end of salesforce, from there select object manager.

Click whichever object you would like to create this new check box field for.

Then click fields and relationships

fields and relationships

That will take us to the full list of fields that are on the selected object.

Click new.

new field

This will take us to select the field type for the new field.

Select checkbox and click next.

This will take you to enter in the metadata like the naming conventions.

From there, select next. This will take you to establish the field level security which allows us narrow in on how can edit this field.

Select next then choose which page layouts this new field will be a part of.

Hit save and you have created your very own checkbox field in salesforce!
