Today we’re going to be going over how to install the data loader on mac. More specifically the M1 Mac.
The process is almost identical but it is slightly different. Link to the instructions from Salesforce here.
Youtube Video
One thing to note before we get too far into the blog post.
We have a youtube video about this topic on the salesforce emily youtube channel.
Sometimes it is a bit easier to watch someone perform a task rather than to try and follow along with a blog post.
Step by Step
Start by going to set up which is the gear up here on the top right-click setup. In the quick find search data loader and it will bring up a screen with instructions to set it up.
You’ll need to download java for your computer. I’ll put the java and the instructions here.
So the process for both is virtually the same just m1 is a little bit different and there are a few more steps.
Downloading the Java file
So let’s go ahead and first we are going to download java and they recommend the 11 or later. I like to go with 11 because I know that’s what Salesforce likes.
You’ll need to know what type of OS you are on. To check the OS click on the Apple icon in the top right and Select “About this mac”,
I’m on 11.4 so I can do either. Going to go with this bottom one and download the .dmg file now.
Downloading the Data Loader
While that’s downloading I’m also going to download the data loader for mac.
One thing that is different and this is where the m1 differentiates is that we need to install rosetta through the terminal.
Copy the script from the instructions.
Go to the terminal paste it, and run it.
Click a to agree or type a.
So now that the things are installed successfully for rosetta on the m1 this should run exactly how it should for a regular mac.
Open up this download file, and go to the install.command.
Go into your settings and allow the developer or the salesforce developer access to your system.
Unlock that setting. Or override it by clicking open.
Provide an Installation Directory and hit enter.
I want this to be on my desktop and I also going to put it into my application so that way I can search for it
Now the data loader download is completed.
Go to the desktop and it should be right there.
Double-click to open the data loader.
If it doesn’t appear on the desktop try looking for it in the application directory on your mac.
But there you go that is how to successfully install the data loader on a mac and specifically an m1 mac.
It is a little bit different but this tutorial should work for both!
If you have any questions let me know in the comments!
Conclusion
A big congrats to you for making it through this tutorial! We hope you found it useful!
