Moving a field in Salesforce refers to altering its position within a page layout. There are several reasons why you might want to move a field, which mainly revolves around improving user experience, streamlining data entry, and enhancing data visibility. Here is a summary of the key reasons:
- Improved User Experience: Rearranging fields to match the workflow or data entry sequence of users can make it easier for them to navigate through the records. Placing frequently used or essential fields in more prominent positions can reduce the time spent searching for information and improve overall efficiency.
- Streamlined Data Entry: Organizing fields in a logical and intuitive manner can help users quickly find and enter data, reducing the likelihood of errors or omissions. Grouping related fields together can also facilitate data entry by allowing users to focus on specific sections of the record.
- Enhanced Data Visibility: Moving important fields to more visible locations ensures that users can easily access crucial information. This can be especially beneficial for decision-makers who need to quickly review and analyze data.
- Role-based Customization: Different users or profiles may have varying needs when it comes to accessing fields. By moving fields based on their relevance to specific roles, you can create customized page layouts tailored to each user group, improving overall productivity and user satisfaction.
- Compliance and Data Validation: If certain fields are required for regulatory compliance or data validation, moving them to more prominent positions can help users easily identify and complete these fields, reducing the risk of non-compliance or data inconsistencies.
Youtube Video
With that being said, I want to point out that we have a video on how to move a field in salesforce on the Salesforce Emily youtube channel.
The video will be embedded in the post and keep scrolling to see the step-by-step tutorial!
Step-by-Step Tutorial
The first step in moving a field in Salesforce is to select which field it is that you would like to move.
Find this on the current page layout so you can verify it later on.
Next, you will need to head to the desired object.
To achieve this, click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the salesforce window.
Then click edit object.
This will automatically send you to the object you were on.
From there select page layouts.
Click on the page layout you would like to move the field on.
From there, you should see the list of fields in the order that they are listed.
Click on the field you would like to move and drag it to the new position.
Next, click save.
This should do the trick to move the field.
However, to verify the field has moved, go back to the record page you first looked at to find the field.
Then refresh the page and the field should have changed spots!
Note: This may take up to 30 minutes depending on the server and load times at any given moment.
