One of the newest features that Salesforce has released is the permission set group functionality. This is a really awesome tool and it has really revolutionized the onboarding process for new users.
Let me explain why! So when you have an org with a variety of different permissions you’ll often have loads of permisson sets that will need to be assigned.
For example, lets say we have a sales team and we have 5 total permission sets to assign to that team. However, one of those is only for managers.
So before you’d need to assign those 4 permission sets to all sales team members and the additional one for the mangers.
Now with permission set groups, you can group those permission sets and only assign it once!!!!!!!!!!
This is so exciting, espcially for big teams.
Youtube Video
One thing I do want to mention before getting too far into this post is that I do have a video breaking down permission set groups of the Salesforce Emily youtube channel!
However, sometimes you aren’t in the best place to watch a youtube video.
So keep scrolling to get to the step by step tutorial in written format.
Step-by-Step:
So let’s jump into the step by step instructions on how to set up a permission set group.
First, wherever you are in salesforce go to the gear up in the top right corner and click on set up.
This will take you to the backend administration side of salesforce.
From there go to permission sets and validate you have the needed permission sets to create the group.
Once you have gone in and validated those permission sets go to permission set groups, also found in the quick find.
Then in the top right corner of the permission set group page. Click on ‘new permission set group’.
This brings you enter in the meta-data. This included the label, api name, and description.
The description is not required however would be really beneficial to outline the purpose of the permission set group.
Anything with a red asterisk is required.
Once that has been completed hit save.
It will take you to the overview of the permisison set group.
Click on permission sets in group.
Then click on add permission set.
This takes you to the list of permission sets you have avalible in your org.
Select on the checkbox which permission sets you’d like to include in the permission set group.
When you’ve completed that click add.
Then you’ll see the permission sets added in a lists and a confirmation message!
Finally you’ll be taken back to that page that shows the metadata of the permission set group.
Click manage assignments and you’ll be able to add users to the permission set group.
They will get all the permissions that the permission set opens up to them.
