Sending a custom notification using salesforce surveys is a great tool to have in your pocket!
It can help you notify your salesforce users of important updates to their customers and clients.
Some use cases might include notifying of a new response, or notifying of a new lead or opportunity!
One thing to note before we get too far into the tutorial, you do need to have the feedback management license.
You also need to have surveys enabled and the salesforce surveys advanced features permission assigned to the user who will be using this function.
In the post we will show you how to enable that license and then how to setup and use surveys to send a custom notification.
Enable Surveys Advanced Features
The first thing you’ll need to do is head to setup.
To get there click on the gear icon in the top right corner.
When in setup search for surveys and select ‘Survey settings’.
Then you will need to toggle on surveys in order to enable it.
Once you’ve enabled surveys search again in the quick find for permission sets.
Once in the permission set create a new permission set.
This permission set will be used to assign advanced features to a user.
Once you’ve saved the initial label and description for the permission set, search for “Salesforce Surveys Advanced Features”.
Click edit and click the check box next to the “Salesforce Surveys Advanced Features” box.
Click save and confirm the changes to the permission set.
Next you will need to add assignments to this permission set, or add your users to this setting.
Click Add Assignments.
Then choose which users you would like to assign this permission set to.
Click Assign and choose if this permission set will have an expiration or not.
Once assigned, go ahead and verify that you have
Setup Custom Notification
The first thing you’ll need to do is navigate to surveys.
To get there go to the app launcher, search for and click on “surveys”.
Once in surveys either edit an existing survey or click new survey.
If you clicked new survey, enter the new survey details and click continue.
Once you have your survey, go back to setup.
Search for and click on custom notification in the quick find.
Then in custom notifications click on new.
This will take you to create a new custom notification type.
We are sending a notification when a new opportunity has been created per another automation we’ve created from this survey.
Once that notification type is created, go back into your survey.
Then validate that you have created all the applicable pages for your survey.
Then go to advanced settings and click on survey data mapping.
Then click new mapping.
Now enter in the name, action type and notification type for your custom notification.
Then let’s choose the condition types.
The options are to have it run every time the survey is used or based on conditions.
In our scenario, we are having this trigger based on if the participant would like to purchase more from our company and have indicated that by answering yes to a question on the survey.
Then go to the notification title and enter in the notification body.
This is the copy you will see or your users will see in Salesforce when the notification has been sent.
Next, choose the notification recipient.
Then click save and activate your survey!
Don’t forget to test this out before using it in production!
Conclusion
